Moose Stocking Ornament; The Posy Collection; Kit includes: Fabric, muslin backing, floss, ribbon, needle, chart, instructions and color photo of finished project.

For many years, preparations for celebrating the holidays have included the hanging of stockings. With this kit, you can incorporate two major images of Alaska into this tradition. The moose is Alaska's official state land mammal and its beloved unofficial ambassador. Found throughout south-central and interior Alaska, moose also frequent urban areas like Fairbanks. Mount McKinley, a prominent peak located within Denali National Park, is the tallest mountain in the United States. Hang this delightful stocking with care, and remember your visit to Alaska for a lifetime. ; 4" x 6"; Aida; 18ct

Historic Flags of General George Washington; The Posy Collection; Kit includes: fabric, floss, needle, chart, instructions and color photo of finished project.

The two flags in this kit were closely associated with General George Washington as he led the Continental Army in its struggle to win independence and liberty, and to create the new American nation. The design for the colonial flag is based on a Congressional resolution that declared the flag be "13 stripes alternate red and white, and the Union be 13 stars white in a blue field representing a new constellation." The nearly square blue flag with 13 sixpointed stars was General Washington's personal standard during the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). It symbolized the presence and authority of Washington as Commander-in-Chief.; 6" x 11"; Aida; 18ct

The Bonnie Blue Flag was the unofficial banner of independence for the Southern states. The single star represented secession, and the field of blue stood for independence. However, the Stars and Bars was selected as the first official flag of the Confederacy. The seven stars represented the original Confederate states of South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. The best-known flag was the Battle Flag, also known as the Southern Cross. Carried by Confederate troops in the field, this flag included 13 stars, representing the original seven states, plus Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Ephrata Cloister Illumination; The Posy Collection; Kit includes: fabric, floss, needle, chart, instructions and color photo of finished project.

The design of this kit is taken from an eighteenth century choral manuscript at Ephrata Cloister. Brothers and Sisters from the community decorated their choral books with beautiful illuminations often using flowers and doves depicting the heavenly home they were anticipating. One of America's earliest religious communities, Ephrata Cloister was founded in 1732 by German settlers seeking spiritual goals. They became known for their music, calligraphy, architecture, and printing. At the zenith of the community in the 1740s and 1750s, about 300 members worked and worshipped at the Cloister. Today, Ephrata Cloister is a historic site, administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and interprets this piece of William Penn's.; 6" x 10"; Aida; 18ct

Compass Rose; The Posy Collection; Kit includes: fabric, floss, needle, chart, instructions and color photo of finished project.

Before magnetic compasses became available in the 13th century, seafaring captains used a diagram called a wind rose to gauge the direction of the prevailing breezes. With the advent of the compass, this diagram evolved into the compass rose, highlighting the cardinal directions and often including as many as 32 "points" or directional arrows in all. When printed onto nautical charts, the compass rose provided the directional reference needed to set accurate courses. This enabled the early transatlantic explorers to sail with confidence. The compass rose in this kit includes points for 16 directions. North, east, south, and west are indicated by the main red points, while the intermediate points are shown with smaller points of other colors.; 9.5" x 9"; Aida; 18ct

Mayflower; The Posy Collection; Kit includes: fabric, floss, needle, chart, instructions and color photo of finished project.

The original Mayflower carried the Pilgrims to New England in 1620. After a voyage of 66 days, the 102 weary travelers finally sighted land at the tip of Cape Cod. They scouted for a suitable place to settle and finally decided upon Patuxet, known to the English as Plymouth. In 1955-7, a reproduction, Mayflower II, was built in Brixham, England. She was intended as a gift to America in appreciation of US assistance to Great Britain during WWII. A specially selected crew sailed the ship across the Atlantic, arriving in June of 1957. Mayflower II is now part of Plimoth Plantation, the living history museum of 17th-century Plymouth, Massachusetts.; 8.75" x 8.5"; Aida; 18ct

Black Canyon; The Posy Collection; Kit includes: fabric, floss, needle, chart, instructions and color photo of finished project.

Rising 2,250 feet from the canyon floor in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park , the Painted Wall stands against the forces of erosion as the highest cliff in Colorado. Like threads running through a piece of fabric, pink stripes lace the precipice. Made of pegmatite, a type of granite, this once molten magma squeezed into the main rock of the canyon like toothpaste from a tube. Starting two million years ago, the Gunnison River began grinding away at the rock, slicing down slowly as it carved the canyon. Today the pink pegmatite reveals many shapes throughout the canyon, but at the Painted Wall people often see dragons lifting off as they ascend to the top of the cliff.; 5" x 6"; Aida; 18ct

By the 1900s, this area of southern Utah was recognized as a potential tourist attraction, and Congress established Zion National Park in 1919. Since then, millions of tourists have enjoyed this unique geological gem.; 7.5" x 6.5"; Aida; 14ct
