Native Americans witnessed the events leading up to the creation of Crater Lake, when Mount Mazama erupted about 7,000 years ago, and then collapsed. Water eventually filled the crater, forming the deepest lake in the United States. Known today for its intense blue color, Crater Lake attracts visitors from all parts of the world. Crater Lake National Park was established in 1902.
